After years of marching, rallying, speaking out for fair wages, and fighting for improvements on the job, workers WON!!!

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner set a new standard in Houston, just as thousands of private sector janitors are readying to fight for a new contract. The Mayor announced that he will increase the wage rate in city security and janitorial contracts to $15 an hour by December 2022, and will raise the minimum wage for Houston airport workers to $15 an hour by 2023.

SEIU Texas and UNITE HERE members stood alongside Mayor Turner at the signing ceremony.

"We are excited for what this means for Houston. The mayor has given us hope that we can win $15 too," said Irma Garcia, a Houston janitor. Irma is one of the thousands of janitors in Houston who will be fighting for a new contract this spring.

This victory shows the power workers have when they come together to demand better pay, working conditions and respect.

When we fight, we WIN!!!
